Read on to learn how we determine the right size change for your breast reduction surgery.
Average Breast Size Reduction
On average, most women go down one or two cup sizes with breast reduction surgery. But it all depends on your starting place and your personal goals. It’s also possible to achieve a greater cup size reduction. We understand that our breast reduction patients have the opposite goal that breast augmentation patients have: You’re looking for a significant size reduction, and we can help.
How Small Should You Go?
Going very small might sound great right now. After years of back pain, bra shoulder grooves, and difficulty finding clothes that fit properly, you might feel ready to say “good riddance” to your breasts.
But, if you choose a drastic size reduction, for example, from a G or H cup to an A or B cup, you might feel almost as if you had a mastectomy. That can cause significant emotional distress that may take you by surprise. There’s also some element of breast reconstruction if you reduce breast size by more than three cups, as Dr. Bruek may need to remove the nipple and restore its appearance with a skin graft.
It’s important to know that you can improve your comfort while making a smaller, more proportionate change of a few cups. In general, Dr. Brueck often recommends keeping the breasts and hips proportionate. This gives you a balanced and natural look that won’t feel too drastic. You’ll still look like yourself, but with a much lighter load to bear.
