Am I a Good Candidate for Fat Grafting Breast Augmentation?

Pretty Woman Posing in LingerieBreast augmentation increases the size of the breasts. It can also address issues such as asymmetry while creating better projection, more visible cleavage, and a fuller, more robust appearance.

For some women, breast implants offer the best solution for breast enhancement. Results from implants are predictable and can easily be customized to create ideal symmetry between the breast and surrounding features. However, implants are not an attractive option for every woman, and Dr. Brueck is pleased to offer fat grafting as an alternative for good candidates.

Fat grafting breast augmentation uses fat from another area of the body to add volume to the breasts. To be a good candidate for the procedure, there must be an area on your body with sufficient fat for the transfer. Common donor areas include the thighs, hips, abdomen, and back, but any area can be utilized for this purpose. During your initial consultation, Dr. Brueck will carefully evaluate your body to determine if enough fat is present for a transfer procedure.

In addition to having sufficient fat for transfer, good fat grafting candidates must be:

  • Over the age of 18
  • In good health
  • Prepared for a variety of procedures
  • Able to take time to recover

Neither fat grafting nor traditional breast augmentation is suitable for pregnant or nursing women.

Fat grafting breast augmentation is more subtle than augmentation with implants. The best candidates are women who only desire a slight increase in size – typically around one cup size – and understand that more than one procedure may be needed to achieve ideal outcomes. Depending on factors that vary from woman to woman, it may take four to six sessions to produce desirable results.

While more subtle than implants, fat grafting does enjoy a few benefits that cannot be found through other options. For example, fat grafting is permanent, does not require a foreign object to be inserted into the body, and produces the most natural-looking and feeling results. These and other benefits can be discussed in more detail during your initial consultation to help ensure you are making the best decision for your body.

There are limitations and benefits for both fat grafting and implant augmentation. Working with a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Brueck is the best way to learn which is right for you.
