Does Eyelid Surgery Remove Crow’s Feet?

How to Travel Safely After Eyelid SurgeryBlepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) is used to improve the appearance of the eyes by addressing cosmetic issues with both the upper and lower lids. With eyelid surgery, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Brueck can lift sagging upper lids, eliminate lid wrinkles, and reduce the appearance of dark circles and bags underneath the eyes. The procedure can help produce a more alert and youthful appearance and serve to complement all surrounding facial features.

Crow’s feet are the wrinkles that extend horizontally from the corners of the eyes when we smile. These are typically dynamic wrinkles, meaning they likely only appear with facial movements and may not be visible at all times. They are, however, somewhat distracting when they become more pronounced and can produce a more aged and worn appearance than many people are comfortable with.

Eyelid surgery does not remove crow’s feet. Blepharoplasty improves the appearance of the upper and lower eyelids, but does not extend to areas adjacent to the eyes.

How to Eliminate Crow’s Feet

Crow’s feet may be reduced with certain topical creams, serums, and ointments, but the most effective way to eliminate these wrinkles is through non-surgical treatment with a filler or neurotoxin. Dermal fillers are best for crow’s feet that are always visible (static wrinkles) and have failed to respond to topical treatments. Crow’s feet that only appear when smiling are best treated with an injectable such as BOTOX® Cosmetic or Xeomin®, which are designed to relax underlying muscles to help reduce the severity of dynamic wrinkles.

Dr. Brueck offers a variety of fillers and injectables, enabling him to address the specific cause of each patient’s wrinkles. In addition to crow’s feet, these products can be used to eliminate wrinkles, skin laxity, and other issues throughout the face and can be beneficial in combination with eyelid surgery for producing more dramatic results. During your initial consultation, Dr. Brueck will carefully assess all of your areas of concern and discuss relevant surgical and non-surgical solutions to help guide you towards the best options for your needs.
