We are seeing more and more patients who undergo bariatric surgery to lose massive amounts of weight – and that they actually do.
Once they lose their 80, 90, or 150 lbs. they will need a body overhaul because of all the excess skin. One area that really shows the effects of weight loss are the inner thighs.
A recent retrospective study by John’s Hopkins doctors involved 106 patients. In this series 72 patients had at least one complication such as wound separation, hematoma, infection or seroma (collection of fluid). Horizontal thigh lifts saw 43% complication rate while vertical saw a 74% complication rate. Doing liposuction in conjunction with the thigh lift increased the risk of complications.
