Breast augmentation remains one of the most popular cosmetic procedures. Many times a breast augmentation is done with OTHER cosmetic procedures. After augmentation, the most common was mastopexy (lift) with augmentation and lastly breast reduction. Overall major complications occurred in 1.46% of the patients with hematoma and infection being the most common. The two factors that lead to increased complication rates were increasing age and increased weight or body mass. Also smoking is a factor pretty much in all cosmetic surgical procedures so a patient should quit at least 2 weeks prior to surgery and 2 weeks after. I tell all of my patients I can’t be as aggressive when they smoke especially in breast lift procedures or reduction.
