Why doesn't Dr. Brueck charge for plastic surgery consultations?
Before answering your question, since a lot of potential patients are reluctant to have that first meeting with their plastic surgeon, may I offer part of a recent testimonial I received?
"From the moment I walked in the door I was treated with great respect. During our initial consultation, I felt absolutely no pressure from you what so ever. I felt that you wanted me to choose a surgeon based on who I was most comfortable with.
I felt that you were there for me to ask any questions and give any information. I needed, to make a very informed decision. I never once felt rushed or persuaded." (To read the rest of this testimonial, please click this link)
Here's another patient's testimonial concerning a consultation:
"Dr. Brueck:
A note of thanks to you, Dr. Brueck, and your staff for a most delightful visit yesterday! I felt immediately at ease and confident in pursuing surgical intervention in your care. I did not know quite what to expect, and I appreciate your making the initial consultation a positive and comfortable one. I am committed to the procedure, Dr. Brueck, and hope to call on you soon. Thanks very much for using your gifts to help others. Have a wonderful week!:)" - LW
Now, to answer the question - I believe there are two basic reasons to offer free consultations.
First, when you and I meet, we will discuss a lot of things about you, your desires and goals and the state of your current health.
a. Based on my experience and observation, I may counsel you to have a different procedure than you are asking about, .
b. I may advise you not to have a procedure if it will not fulfill your expectations.
c. I may find that your current health is such that you should defer any plastic surgery procedure until your general health improves.
I can't in good conscience charge you for a consultation that may have any of those results.
Second, the decision to have plastic surgery is one that should be approached only after careful consideration.
a. All surgery carries some risk with it. (Any aurgeon who tells you otherwise should raise immediate questions in your mind.). Plastic surgery is no exception.
b. I will show you examples of the results other plastic surgery patients have realized.
c. If making your initial, confidential consultation free will encourage you to become informed as you decide about plastic surgery, it's the right thing to do.
Perhaps knowing that it is free, confidential and without any obligations to proceed, will encourage you to sit down with me.
Finally, while it is critically important to select a plastic surgeon who is Board Certified by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and has years of experience with the surgery you are considering, it also is important that you feel good about your surgeon as a person. You should trust your plastic surgeon's training, demeanor, aesthertic eye and concern for you. The consultation should reassure you about all these characteristics.
You should know, "I have never regretted a case I didn't accept."
